Alex Fraser

Swire acquired a controlling interest in Alex Fraser in 2006. The company was established in 1879 and is Australia’s leading construction and demolition materials recycler and producer of sustainable materials for the civil construction industry. Alex Fraser produces high-quality products, including aggregates, asphalt, road base and sand at eight facilities in three states, focusing on excellence in delivery reliability and providing measurable improvements in environmental outcomes.

Alex Fraser is recognised internationally for its technical expertise and as a pioneer in recycling. An example of this is the company’s recent innovation in glass recycling techniques, improving communities and the environment. In 2009, Alex Fraser opened a new facility in Melbourne’s west that has been labelled the world’s most advanced construction and demolition materials recycling facility. Through leading-edge design and innovative technology, Alex Fraser has recycled 40 million tonnes of construction and demolition materials since 1985.

In 2013, the company commissioned a new state-of-the-art asphalt plant in Melbourne’s east. Featuring advanced technological innovations, the facility is one of the most efficient in the industry in terms of carbon emissions.
